In this solemn Easter week, the recent news item is Vatican lashes out against sex abuse coverage
(philstar.com) Updated April 01, 2010 11:05 PM

A snippet from this news item:

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Cardinals rushed to Pope Benedict XVI's defense on Holy Thursday amid accusations he played a role in covering up sex abuse scandals, as an increasingly angry Vatican made a stinging attack on the U.S. media for its coverage.

We refrain from commenting about this as we have already covered this in previous blog posts. But it is worth pointing out, that the messenger of a call to penitence must be him(her)self morally upright.

Who do you trust about Condoms: The W.H.O. or the bishops?

Src: http://www.mb.com.ph/node/249112/who-challenge

You noticed that Philippine bishops would want to feel relevant in these times by issuing statements outside their field of expertise and instead express doubts about the efficacy of condoms in preventing the spread of sexual diseases and HIV(Aids)?

OK. How many American priests and Catholic workers died of Aids?
The W.H.O. statements contents can be summarized:

the W.HO.O. statement directly contradicted bishops' recent claims that condoms are too porous and do not work in preventing the spread of infection.

Dr Massimo Ghidinelli, the WHO's regional adviser on HIV-AIDS, said the WHO statement was "intended to clarify some of these regularly returning questions and doubts about the effectiveness of condoms."

Now as for the other claim by the bishops that such distribution of free condoms contribute to the promiscuity, may we invite them to comment on the Irish and Germanic problems about priestly abuses for which the Pope, yes the Pope, was even implicated for not doing anything about guilty priests?

Sex scandals don't go away: This time the pope is implicated!

More documents have come into view revealing that Cardinal J.Ratzinger failed to defrock an American priest who molested HUNDREDS of deaf boys, despite receiving letters from American bishops pleading for him to act directly on the matter.

The American priest [name witheld] has been reported to molest up to 200 boys and has shown NO REMORESE.

Actually Ratzinger's second in command, Cardinal T. Bertone told bishops to begin a canonical trial to defrock the priest if found guilty, but Ratzinger called it off, after the suspected priest wrote a ltter stating:

'I simply want to live out the time that I have left in the dignity of my priesthood. I ask your kind assistance in this matter.'

What did the RCC do? The RCC moved him from the region but allowed him to continue working in schools and a juvenile detention center, still remaining as a priest until he died in 1998.
